Shortly after registration in August 1998, Community Health Information Education Forum (C.H.I.E.F.) management conducted two community mobilization visits to Gbara in order to assess the health needs of the community. From this needs assessment, the project provided safe-motherhood programmes, a community elders forum, and capacity/poverty alleviation programmes.
Key strategy used was Information-Education Communication to create awareness, increase knowledge, build approval, present personal benefits, propt action, sustain behavioral change and influence community norms.
Health, HIV/AIDS, economic development, women, family planning/reproductive health.
Future plans include: training of volunteer health workers/traditional birth attendants, work with youth in and out of school, community/home-based care of people living with HIV/AIDS.
