Programme Summary

This partnership-organised consultation conference occurred in Trinidad and Tobago in June 1998, the third meeting of its kind since 1996. The purpose of this conference was to review the impact of HIV/AIDS on development and to develop and support coordinated responses to the epidemic through long-term, regional approaches to resource allocation, planning and implementation of actions.

Communication Strategies

A three-day conference took place in Trinidad and Tobago from June 3-5, 1998. Attending were participants from inter-governmental organisations, UNAIDS, co-sponsors and other United Nations agencies, the EU and its member states, other donors and NGO's.

Key Points

These conferences are based on partnership collaboration among a variety of organisations in order to create a unified approach to providing sustainable HIV prevention and treatment. The first conference of this type was organised in cooperation with the EU and the SADC in Malawi in 1996, and the second was a regional consultation organised by UNAIDS and the EU in partnership with the South East Asian Association of States in Nepal in 1997.
