Programme Summary


Communication and Good Governance in West and Central Africa' seeks to strengthen the human and technical capacity of communication media in 10 countries (Benin, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Sao Tome & Principe and Togo) in order that they can contribute effectively to the process of good governance.

Communication Strategies



Activities include specialist training and seminars on good governance issues for media professionals and trainers. As part of this process UNESCO has held and plans future sub-regional and national workshops on themes including: the concept of good governance; role of media in good governance; law, good governance and communication; legal framework and media practice; and media, peace and conflict resolution.

Democracy, political development, peace.

Key Points



Media organsiations which have the trained human resources and strengthened technical capacity to gather, process, produce and disseminate news and information to different segments of the society can contribute considerably to general development and to buttress democracy and good governance in Africa.
