Vaanavil: A Video Tour - Tamil Nadu, IndiaRegionGlobal, Africa, South Asia Programme SummaryMarupakkam, which means 'The other side' in Tamil language, is an organisation that has been working since 1996 from Madurai. They are now attempting to arrange video tours with short and feature films and documentaries in Tamilnadu. This tour project is named 'Vaanavil', meaning 'rainbow' in Tamil language. Voluntary organisations, action groups, people's movements, trade unions, political parties, educational institutions, interested groups and individuals either by going alone or combining with other local agencies can organise such tours in their field areas. Marupakkam will coordinate the tour with a video projector, the films they want and a team of facilitators. Communication StrategiesMarupakkam produces low cost videos on local issues, screening films made by fellow filmmakers, organises film festivals, translates films into Tamil from English, assists filmmakers to organise tours with their films and organises video workshops.
