Programme Summary


By establishing an Instructional Technology Institute (ITI) aimed at producing teachers and trainers proficient in the use and application of a wide range of information and communication technologies, there was hoped to be an increase in the national levels in literacy, numeracy, computer skills and the enhancement of creativity and problem-solving skills of the Jamaican work force.

Communication Strategies



Training programmes were developed for both the public and private sector to address teachers at all levels of education and instructors for the work force. On-site and on-line education programmes were produced and implemented. Intranet (ITINET) was established among the institutions involved.

Key Points



The ITI is designed to provide leadership and support in the appropriate use of information communication technology, improving teaching and learning, while developing an on-going, online modular planning environment. Long term goals include providing sustainability to the program by attracting organisations and instructors, along with the gathering of documentation identifying best practices for replicating the project on an international scale.
