Business Intelligence Trade Points - Burkina Faso

Programme Summary:
The objectives of this project of the Féderation Nationale des Industries de l'Agro-Alimentaire du Burkina Faso (FIAB) included providing a more effective and efficient collection and dissemination of national and international market information by the member organisations FGIAB and other interested agro-food businesses in Burkina Faso. It also aimed to strengthen the competitiveness of the agro-food sector nationally and internationally and to develop a self-sustaining information service in this sector.
Communication Strategies:

Over six years, the national information centre was linked to five regional centres by computer, whereupon regional centres could request information by phone or fax. A database was developed which would eventually be linked through internet connections.

Development Issues:

Economic Development, Agriculture, Connectivity and Knowledge Sharing.

Key Points:

Small-scale producers and exporters do not have access to national and international electronic information on agricultural products, prices and trade. This project aims to provide this information and train the users in rural areas to access information.

Project outputs included the development of one national information centre with well-trained staff and appropriate equipment, cutomised information services including databases, internet and more traditional sources of information, five regional centres, training services, and communication services in the form of email, internet, and word processing.
