Programme Summary

The Media Community is a partnership project that was initiated in September 1998, and has grown to contain a core membership of 15,000 media professionals originating from many different developing countries. The professionals are linked together through the e-mail and numerous other web-based facilities.

Communication Strategies

E-mail and bulletin boards are used to allow the members to learn, discuss, and get support in all of their media-production related work. A spin-off of the work from this project is the joint development of an interactive CD-ROM that offers basic Internet training

Development Issues

Partnerships, communication for development

Key Points

The professionals are those who, over the past thirty years, have participated in training programmes and workshops of the RNTC. The basis for this program is the idea that partnering and sharing knowledge are a prerequisite for success in an information society. For this reason, close relationships with many organisations and actors in the field of ITC and development are sought after and maintained.

Partners

International Institute for Communication and Development, Radio Netherland Training Centre (RNTC), the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), Information Boutiques in Burkina Faso, Alliance for a Sustainable Information Society (ASIS), European Commission, 15,000 media professionals
