Programme Summary


The Red Ribbon Media Awards were initiated to acknowledge excellence in representing HIV/AIDS issues by various media channels, ie print and broadcast journalism, advertising, as well as the performing and visual arts.

The Awards are held biennially and the Prime Minister of Malaysia presented them in 1996 and 1998.

Key Points



One of the underlying objectives for the awards is to encourage media organisations to be more pro-active and responsible for their representation of HIV/AIDS information. As such, entries for the Awards must have appeared (ie: been printed, aired published, performed exhibited) in Malaysia. The languages for print media are English, Bahasa Malaysia, Chines and Tamil. In 1996 there were 8 categories, while in 1998, there were 18 categories for participation.
