Organised by INTRAC, the aim of the course is to familiarise development

practitioners with principles, approaches and

recognised good practice in the application of

information and communication technologies (ICTs) in

different sectors, such as health, education,

livelihoods or governance. The course is structured to

provide an opportunity for participants to reflect on

their own situations, consider how ICTs might be

integrated into programmes and organisational

development, and to assess how an organisation might

take these ideas forward.

By the end of the course, participants will have

knowledge of:

• The implications of using ICTs as an integral part

  of development programmes.

• The range of ICTs that can be used in development

  programmes.

• The major approaches to and debates around the use

  of ICTs in development.

• Different ways that non-governmental organisations (NGOs), governments and

  communities have incorporated ICTs into their strategy

  and programming.

• How to approach the use of ICTs in their

  organisation or programme.

• Key technical and operational issues that support

  or constrain the use of ICTs.

NOTE: no specific ICT expertise is required for

this course other than the use of standard office

applications and web browsers and there is no ICT

training provided in the course.
