Global Youth Assembly 2007 (August 1-4 2007)LocationEdmonton, AB, Canada Event summaryThis Youth Assembly will bring 700 to 1000 international youth and young professionals between the ages of 16 to 28 to Edmonton, Canada. These dynamic individuals will participate in keynote addresses, break-out sessions and workshops in order to build an understanding of critical local and global issues and to strengthen their capacity to stimulate change. The content of the Assembly will focus on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 8 area domains of action for a Culture of Peace as a conceptual framework. This will help participants develop comprehensive knowledge of social, economic and political issues in our world – from AIDS, to poverty, to human security – as well as offering action-oriented philosophies and quantitative strategies that will empower them to tackle these problems. Youth will examine how issues impact people at various levels – the personal, the community and globally. By exploring the complexity and inter-dependencies of local and global issues, delegates will have the opportunity to understand that building effective solutions requires an approach that recognises both the specific characteristics of each problem, as well as broader holistic aspects. The organisers are accepting a wide-range of oral and poster presentation proposals that offer either an educational opportunity on the 8 action areas of a culture of peace, or a leadership development workshop.
