Event summary

Empowerment Concepts announces the Positive Living Training Course which aims to be an HIV/AIDS and Wellness-focused community empowerment intervention.

The course is aimed at Peer Educators, HIV Champions, EAP, Health and Safety, and Clinic staff, Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) staff; CSI implementers, Himan Resource (HR) practitioners as well as implementers for Non Governmental Organisation (NGO's), Voluntary Service Organisation (VSO's), AIDS Service Organisation (ASO's) and Faith Based Organisations (FBO's).

The course modules are broken into two focal points.

Wellness-focused modules:

  • Food security
  • Nutritional security
  • Immune-strengthening, using foods and other physical means
  • Health motivation methods
  • Water safety and purification
  • Stomach and intestinal problems: Prevention & treatment
  • Home remedies for common illnesses (non-life-threatening)
  • Mind-body (PNI) counselling methods for immune enhancement
  • Applications of above methods in a therapeutic support group structure; alternatively, in a workplace or community wellness intervention.

HIV-specific modules:

  • Q&A regarding intermediate level knowledge of HIV and AIDS
  • The history of pandemics: How they start, and how they end
  • Dealing with Wasting Syndrome
  • What are ARV's and when are they used?
  • Using nutrition to support ARV treatment
  • Dealing with stigma
  • Qualities and strategies of long-term survivors.
