Meraka Innovate Conference for Educators (Apr 18-20 2007)

Location

Pretoria, South Africa

Event summary

The main aim of this conference is to share knowledge, experience, lessons learnt and good practice from practicing educators using ICTs.

Traditionally ICT conferences for educators provided a forum for sharing these experiences but the transfer of knowledge, according to the organisers is generally restricted to the delegates attending the conference. The intended outcome of the Meraka Innovate Conference is to facilitate a process of educators participating in the rigors of compiling educational papers that have been peer reviewed by practicing teachers. The papers will then be made available to all schools in a variety of different formats. This does not exclude the possibilities of having learners participate in the process as well. Slide presentations are useful to delegates but lack the ability to provide readers with sufficient information to replicate the best practices being reported on.

The core thematic areas are:

  • ICT Skills training
  • Innovative use of technology in the classroom
  • Classroom administration
  • Outreach programmes
  • Collaborative Learning
