This two-week course, organised by the Asia-Pacific Development Communication Center, focuses on the importance of Community Based Development (CBD) and its link to sustainable development. Emphasis is placed on developing and managing CBD projects, key elements, tools and methodologies of CBD and CBD’s application to development issues such as HIV/AIDS and the environment.
Participants will be introduced to Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools, community mobilisation, resource mobilisation and community study and analysis. It is a learner-centred training that sets a framework for participants to learn through presentations, debates and exchange of experiences utilizing a participatory approach. The structure of the course incorporates both the theoretical and practical elements equally. Thus, a significant part of the training are conducted in the field, visiting community-based projects in rural settings.

This course is useful for Project Managers, Coordinators, Field Workers, government staff and community leaders. Participants should be fluent in English and preferably skilled in current computer applications.
