Avian Influenza Media Workshop (Jan 15-17 2007)

Event summary

Organised by Uganda Media for Health, this workshop is for journalists covering health issues in Commonwealth countries of Africa. Participants will have opportunity to learn about the latest developments on the avian flu threat, sharpen their reporting skills and share experiences in covering bird flu issues.



The workshop will cover the following themes:

  • the ABC of bird flu: cause, signs, transmission patterns and prevention;
  • the role of the media in national preparedness for bird flu outbreaks;
  • key bird flu messages for the lay public; and
  • accessing bird flu information on the internet.

Applications are invited from journalists from Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Uganda Media for Health will pay for travel and subsistence costs.

Deadline for applications is November 30 2006.
