MEDIAIDS Meeting: Redefining the Critical Role of Media in Reducing Stigma and Discrimination and Enabling Access to TreatmeLocationShillong, India Event summaryAs part of its thematic transversal programmes to cover health journalism issues, Internews Europe, France has been working in India in partnership with the Foundation for Responsible Media (Formedia, India) since 2004 under the MEDIAIDS project on improving the media environment for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment effort. Organised by Internews Europe and Formedia, India, this meeting will redefine the critical role of media in reducing stigma and discrimination and enabling access to treatment for people living with HIV (PLHIV) in North east India. In order to address this issue and improve the quantity and quality of locally relevant available information about HIV/AIDS, Internews Europe has developed a programme targeting four key multiplier groups: senior media managers, mainstream radio journalists and producers, producers of non-news media (talkshow hosts and DJs) and representatives of People Living with HIV community groups and non governmental organisations involved in anti-retroviral therapy administration, harm reduction services and care.
