Event summary

This 5 day intensive training workshop is organised by the International Catholic Union of the Press (UCIP), the Organización Católica Latinoamericana y Caribeña de Comunicación (OCLACC), and the Red Latinoamericana de Jóvenes Comunicadores. The Refresher Programme will help media and other, especially young, professionals to produce and disseminate development messages, while increasing awareness of development issues and the role of a free press. It will provide a platform to discuss pressing issues in Latin America and to reinforce networking and solidarity in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This event will provide a thorough and scientific analysis of recent history and current affairs in Latin America so that journalists can rely on in-depth information to improve their work.

Topics to be considered will be:

  • the dependence of Latin America on its colonial masters, and the developed world;
  • racism;
  • submission;
  • globalisation;
  • refugees;
  • new colonisation;
  • equality of wealth;
  • new technologies; services and resources;
  • repairing damage;
  • the role of the media;
  • ownership;
  • the impact of free market rules and economic, social, political and cultural crises in Latin American countries.
