Behaviour Change Communication Planning (Mar 7-17 2006)

Event summary

Offered by the International Center for Delopment Communication (ICDC), this two-week intensive course is designed to provide insights on current knowledge, attitudes and best practice on the components of behaviour change communication: theories, formative research, materials development, programme design and management to enhance the capability of programme designers and implementers of behaviour change communication programmes. Activities are highly participatory in both in-house sessions and field trips.

Objectives of the course:

  • Differentiate and relate the components of Information, Education and Communication (IEC);
  • Share experiences in one’s home country relevant to behaviour change communication as an effective approach to the prevention and control of social and health problems;
  • Explain the theories of behaviour modification and identify factors that facilitate or impede behaviour change;
  • Explore and discuss behaviour change communication strategies applicable to given situations;
  • Design a programme in behaviour change communication; and
  • Present a draft plan with workable strategies and management plans.

This course is intended for programme managers, communication and training officers, teachers, youth leaders/advisers, counselors and anyone committed to the prevention and control of problems related to individual and collective health or social risk behaviours.

Field trips to relevant projects and agencies are interspersed within the workshop modules.

Registration Information

The workshop fee is USD $1400 which is inclusive of workshop materials, transportation during field trips and morning and afternoon snacks. Participants are expected to pay for their own airfare, board and lodging costs. Accommodation in campus is available to ICDC participants upon request for reservation.
