Documentary Photography Audience Engagement Grant
The Open Society Institute (OSI) Documentary Photography Project is offering a grant to support alternative models for presenting and disseminating documentary photography to the public.
The Audience Engagement Grant (formerly the Distribution Grant) supports innovative projects that use existing bodies of work to actively engage audiences on human rights and social justice issues. Projects should include a partnership between individuals and organisations that combines expertise in documentary photography with experience working on the topic or community the project addresses.
Africa-wide Women and Young Professionals in Science Competitions
The 2012-2013 Africa-wide women and young professionals in science competitions intend to evaluate, recognise, and reward the contributions of women and young professionals who are involved in: (i) Pioneering and innovative research; (ii) Communicating their research results and technological developments; and (iii) Advocating for policy change as well as influencing policy processes through their research.
My Community, Our Earth: Youth-Led Projects using Mapping, Geography, GIS for Sustainable Development
The My Community, Our Earth: Geographic Learning for Sustainable Development (MyCOE) Partnership encourages young people around the world to ask and develop answers to pressing global issues in their own local communities, using geographic tools, concepts, and perspectives. MyCOE invites young people to submit youth-led sustainable development projects and maps in celebration of the United Nations (UN) Rio+20 Conference.
Asia-Pacific Child Rights Award
The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), CASBAA, and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) seek Asia-Pacific broadcasters and producers to submit entries for the Asia-Pacific Child Rights Award. The Award, launched in 2001, is given each year for the best television programming on a child rights issue produced in the Asia-Pacific region. It recognises the efforts of broadcasters in pursuing the production of top-quality children's programming and better news coverage of children's issues.
UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of ICTs in Education
“Educating Youth for Responsible Global Digital Citizenship” is the theme of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Education. Funded by the Kingdom of Bahrain, the US$50,000 prize is divided between two winners. This prize rewards activities that demonstrate best practice as well as creative use of ICTs to enhance learning, teaching, and overall educational performance.

Freelance cameramen and camerawomen from around the world are invited to submit entries for the Rory Peck Awards, which honour the best freelance footage in news and current affairs - especially in regions where it is difficult to operate as a news gatherer.
The Rory Peck Award for News
This award honours freelance camerawork in the coverage of a news event where the focus is on the immediacy of the story. Rushes and un-voiced pieces are accepted in this category. Maximum duration: 10 minutes.
Production Grant for Photographers from Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Pakistan
The Open Society Documentary Photography Project and Arts and Culture Program announce a grant and training opportunity for documentary photographers from Central Asia, the South Caucasus, Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Pakistan. Both emerging and well-established photographers are eligible to apply. The grant will begin in November 2012 and end in June 2013.
The grant is being offered to:
- visually document issues of importance in the region; and
- provide training and support to photographers from the region.
Abraham Horwitz Award for Excellence in Leadership in Inter-American Health
The Abraham Horwitz Award for Excellence in Leadership in Inter-American Health, created in 1975, honours creative public health leaders whose commitment to public health stimulates excellence among their peers, staff, and other public health professionals. This award recognises committed leaders and their contributions to public health resulting in region-wide improvements in the lives of the peoples of the Americas.

The Open Society Institute (OSI) invites photographers to submit a proposal and completed body of work for consideration in the Moving Walls group exhibition.
Moving Walls is an exhibition series that features in-depth explorations of human rights and social issues. Thematically linked to OSI's mission, Moving Walls is exhibited at OSI’s offices in New York, NY, and Washington, DC, United States, and includes seven discrete bodies of work.
