Executive Summary. Designed, implemented, evaluated, managed and developed various aspects of health, education, communication and social marketing programs focusing on HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, community forestry/environment and primary education for USAID, the World Bank, the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, UNICEF, UNFPA and other agencies since 1980. Applied extensive sociolinguistic, language planning and anthropological skills in numerous world regions to issues ranging from problem identification to final assessment. Written textbooks on language instruction; technical articles, workshop manuals and handbooks in health and education, education curricula in language and mathematics. Managed, designed and written interactive radio series in English and Spanish as second languages and teacher training for the initial primary school level. From 2006 to the present worked on emerging diseases in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, concentrating on communication, training and management. With IMPACT developed and applied new and existing BCC techniques to a wide range of cultural and linguistic settings. Worked as resident advisor to Nepal Contraceptive Retail Sales in management, communication, marketing, sales and distribution. Co-ordinated Asia-Near East region for the reproductive health POLICY Project in countries from Morocco to the Philippines. As regional manager based in Morocco, managed contraceptive social marketing projects, developed communication strategies and provided technical assistance to improve the efficiency of these projects in francophone and anglophone Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, including Jordan, Morocco, Senegal, Mali and Madagascar. Management and communication skills utilised to improve management, marketing, distribution and sales, as well as communications’ and training activities on these projects. Prior to work in Morocco for the Futures Group, was a maternal-child health, HIV/AIDS communications’ advisor with the Academy for Educational Development-World Bank-Government of Indonesia Third Community Health and Nutrition Project in Papua Province. Has had ten years of primary and adult-level educational radio series development in Africa, Asia and Latin America in second-language instruction, mathematics and teacher training. Has had more than five years of experience in managing diverse portfolios and countries. Has over thirteen years of Africa experience, seven in francophone countries including Mali and Senegal, nine years of Asia experience, and five years of Latin American experience. Has worked in ten languages. I read widely in fiction and non-fiction in whatever is important in English (Purity), German (Guenther Grass), Spanish (Garcia Marquez, everything) Italian (Italo Calvino and Italian majors of the 20th century, plus Lampedusa), French (Houllebecq and Modiano), exercise one hour a day (swimming, cycling, walking, trekking in Nepal), architetcure, art collecting, design, etc.) lobbying, etc.
