Rowena Natalee Palmer is a trained Journalist with over seven years experience in the field of health communication. She is currently employed to the Ministry of Health, Jamaica as Communications Specialist in the Health Promotion and Protection Division. Miss Palmer previously worked as a Reporter at the Jamaica Observer, Communications Lecturer at the Crown Institute of Professional Studies, as well as Public Relations Officer and Acting Manager in the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Health. During her six year stint (2003–2009) in the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Health, Miss Palmer wrote speeches for the Ministers of Health and other senior officials, provided communication guidance for the Ministry and its four Regional Health Authorities, as well as planned and guided the implementation of national public education campaigns. She also functioned as the Ministry’s official spokesperson. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from the University of the West Indies (UWI). She also has several professional certifications in Crisis Communications, Communication for Behavioural Impact (COMBI), and Media Relations, from the Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and other recognized institutions. She will this year complete the requirements for a Masters of Science (MSc.) in Governance and Public Policy at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. She is desirous of becoming an internationally recognized Health Policy Advisor.
