For over twenty years, Rebecca Sewall has designed and implemented innovative approaches to promoting gender equality and advancing women’s empowerment. An expert in gender and social inclusion mainstreaming, Dr. Sewall has designed gender integration strategies for USAID missions and bureaus, implementing partners and foundations in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Eurasia. She has mainstreamed gender and social inclusion into large-scale global development initiatives in governance, health and agriculture in culturally conservative and conflict-affected environments.
Dr. Sewall is currently President of Think Balanced and Inclusive Growth. Think BIG provides a broad range of innovative services that inspire and enable development practitioners, governments and the private sector to optimize opportunities to make economic growth more gender balanced and socially inclusive. Think BIG is unique in that it uses conflict analysis and resolution frameworks to analyze and constructively address gender bias and social exclusion. This approach allows Think BIG to avoid the zero sum game and cultural resistance that is often associated with “gender” work, and develop right-based approaches that emphasize best practices, efficiency, and mutual gain.
