As a journalist, columnist and published author, words are my first love, leadership my second.
I have a proven track record in initiating and spearheading group projects that require networking, coordination and innovation. Over the last seven years, I have led teams in creating and revamping many newspaper sections. I was also privileged to lead a team from Standard Group that organized the inaugural African Real Estate and Housing Finance Awards in Nairobi, culminating in a gala that brought together 460 academia, private and public sector players from Africa. In my last post as Associate Editor at People Daily, I led a team of 25, young writers and editors who in 2014 executed a revolutionary relaunch that made the newspaper attractive to young readers.
As a commissioning editor, I have built energetic teams that enjoy brainstorming.Copy editing is my forte, turning written material from good to excellent, and I enjoy training younger journalists. I have a versatile range that covers fiction, academic, essay, opinion, research, and journalistic writing.
I harbour ambitions of being a part-time novelist and have published short stories in various anthologies. I'm currently in the process of publishing my first novel. Passionate about books, I am an avid and eclectic reader and my most rewarding leisure time is spent discoursing about books with friends, singing in the choir, travelling or eating out. My blog is an incisive discussion on the arts and culture scene.
As my part in creating a continent where Africans are self-expressed and powerful with their choices and circumstances, I volunteer in an international organization whose rallying call is the practice of integrity, authenticity, responsibility, bold leadership and performance.
I am looking for a high-level, challenging communications assignment, where I can use and develop my leadership, creativity and writing skills, and build an international profile.
