An Ex-Humphrey Fellow at the University of Minnesota, Law School from India for the year 2010-2011.The Humphrey Fellow Program is a US State sponsored program designed to bring mid-career professional to the U.S. for ten months of professional development work supported by academic study. My enclosed resume gives you an overview of my relevant experience and training in the area of child protection issues. As a part of my fellowship program, my goal was to enhance my leadership and management skills. I also increased my understanding on child protection issues with the NGOs working at national level in the USA. During my fellowship, I studied the subject like International Human Rights, International Human Resource Management and Non-profit Management and Governance to increase my academic knowledge.
At presently, I have joined UNICEF as a consultant in the child protection team for the Department of Women and Child Development Bhopal, Government of Madhya Pradesh, India.
Prior to my Humphrey Fellowship, my most recent position has given me an opportunity to work in UNICEF, as a consultant in the Government of India on child protection issue especially on Juvenile Justice System and Integrated Child Protection Scheme. I also worked at HAQ: Centre for Child Rights, India, and provided legal advice and managed the Child Protection Unit. We advocated for rights of vulnerable and at risk children and youth to be integral to policy dialogue and development strategies from human rights based approach. I have also worked as a National Campaign Coordinator – Campaign Against Child Trafficking (CACT) in India, a nation-wide campaign against All Forms of Child Trafficking and Migration. Handling the cases, conducting training program and engaging with the government on child trafficking issues were my major tasks. I also worked on street children issues in Delhi and as an independent attorney and handled civil and criminal cases in District Courts and Juvenile Justice Board in Delhi. In 2008, State department selected me to participate in the International Visitor Leadership Program for Trafficking in Person in the USA. I was also involved in doing partnership work World Vision, Plan, Railway Children and other organizations in the country.
