Twenty years strategic communications and project management experience working with private and public sector, development organisations and non-governmental programmes, incorporating all aspects of integrated communications campaigns, including strategy and content development, video production, strategic messaging, media relations, advocacy and outreach programmes. My consulting experience is with clients in the public and private sector, development and NGO arena in the southern Africa region, and the United States. I have a well-developed understanding of humanitarian, developmental and socio-economic priorities within the southern Africa region as a whole. My responsibilities have included creating and leading strategic media and communications programmes, frequently with a strong social advocacy component, conducting evaluations of development initiatives in Southern Africa, specifically in the HIV/AIDS arena, and managing and overseeing projects, budgets and teams in South Africa, San Francisco and China. My contracts to provide communications support to several South African government departments over the past four years have focused on the development of strategic and integrated communications campaigns for those entities, and have also frequently included a strong capacity-building component, with provision for the transfer of skills. My strengths are in project management, strategic communications, and writing, and I consider myself to be an excellent communicator, with an aptitude for relationship building with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels, from many parts of the world.
