Michael Unland is Executive Director of the Catholic Media Council (CAMECO), a consultancy specialising in media and communications in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and the Pacific. CAMECO offers its services to local partners, organisations that are active in delivering media assistance, and to donors - among them many faith-based agencies. CAMECO is especially concerned with empowering community and development-oriented media initiatives and strengthening the presence of the Church in the media as well as enhancing the importance of the media within the Church. Previously Michael was a Senior Adviser to the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media of the Organization of Security and Co-operation in Europe, which is mandated to observe media developments in the 57 participating States and promote full compliance with the Organization’s principles and commitments regarding freedom of expression and free media. Unland has worked as a journalist, online producer and, for more than 12 years, as international expert, consultant and manager in various media development and C4D projects in transition, post conflict and developing countries for UNDP, OSCE and the German development organizations. His educational background is in journalism, modern history and communication science.
