This course incorporates methods from public relations, media advocacy, communications research, and participatory communication. It transcends gathering newspaper clippings; media monitoring is premised on becoming familiar with local and national media, understanding how media frame various issues, and relaying public interests and feedback to relevant media producers.
The course will engage participants in establishing the groundwork for a media monitoring system for their organizations. The modules are designed to integrate media analysis approaches with work in a development organization. Participants will learn and take key steps to implement a media monitoring program though the creation of a media audit, baseline assessment of media issues framing, and developing a proposal for community feedback and media advocacy.
