Manas Foundation is a Delhi based registered trust, deeply committed to the cause of Mental Health in India since the year 2000.
Manas focuses on looking at holistic well-being of the individual and community. Thus the focus is on the person and not on mental illnesses. We believe that all individuals, organizations, and societies have mental health concerns and we all need to address this issue for leading a more complete and fulfilling life. The psycho-social model of mental health care and well-being stresses on building positive experiences of individual and community life.
Our model of work within the community is also not dependent on creating new infrastructure or institutions; we leverage and integrate skills for mental health care as a plug in component into existing resources/groups/community spaces. Communication and ICT material in different medium ranging from person-person to mass based electronic media have been the tools for bringing about an attitudinal and behavioural change in the different community groups that have been targetted for intervention.
To cite a few examples of our communication tools developed ranges from training modules for barefoot counsellors, pamphlets to destigmatise various mental health concerns. destressing manual for students during exam time, street plays and monologues for public awareness about mental health, curating art shows to assimilate different socio-cultural views, photographic campaigns to highlight wellness and positive health, fake tobacco products and kiosks to combat smoking, cultural and entertainment programs for advocacy about mental health issue, seminars, workshops and knowledge capture exercises for advocacy about health and wellbeing, sensitisation material for community stakeholders- both audio visual and print.
Through all our endeavors we always assert that mental health care should be available, affordable and destigmatized for all.
