Janet Love serves as the Associate Director of Training and Technical Assistance for the Tobacco Technical Assistance Consortium (TTAC). She joins the TTAC team with over 12 years frontline experience in the design, implementation and evaluation of the Oklahoma Tobacco Control Program. Since 2005, Janet has collaborated with TTAC on the expansion of the Communities of Excellence Plus, a comprehensive planning model for local programs. Since 1997, Janet has designed, directed and coordinated State and community tobacco control programs based on best practice models, developed program guidelines, and monitoring tools and processes for comprehensive as well as capacity-building programs and ethnic tobacco education networks. In 2000, under her direction, youth leaders launched the Oklahoma Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) youth empowerment movement (okswat.com). She directed the development of the 24/7 Tobacco-Free Schools policy guide, SWAT operating guidelines and materials. Examples of trainings designed under her direction include: the 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2007 Oklahoma Teen Summits, 2001 Oklahoma State Tobacco Control Leadership Institute; 2003 Oklahoma Statewide Secondhand Smoke Science Tour; 2006 Oklahoma Communities of Excellence in Tobacco Control Academy, 2006 Social-Marketing in Tobacco Control, and the 1999 Oklahoma Youth Tobacco Survey Data Collection Training, where she received a CDC Director’s Award for Exemplary Design and Implementation of the Youth Tobacco Survey. Janet served as the collaborative director of the Oklahoma State’s first master brand and integrated campaign, Tobacco Stops With Me (StopsWithMe.com) and provided oversight of the formative research, concept and message development, production and media planning. As a master brand, Tobacco Stops with Me served as the umbrella for Oklahoma’s secondhand smoke brand, BreatheEasy, and the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline’s 1-800-Quit-Now. From 1986-1997, Janet served as board chair, director and volunteer for the Oklahoma Children’s Cancer Association. In 1996, she also served as faculty for the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), Language Immersion and Cultural Exchange Program in Przytok, Poland. Janet holds a Masters in Public Health, with dual degrees in Healthcare Administration & Policy Analysis and Health Promotion Sciences, from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, College of Public Health and an undergraduate degree in Journalism. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist and a member of the University of Oklahoma College of Public Health Alumni Association. Janet has served on planning committees for the CDC Office of Smoking and Health and the National Summit on Smokeless Tobacco.
