Dr. Graham Neilsen is a specialist Sexual Health Physician and Public Health Physician with more than 21 years experience in sexual health programs in developing countries in Asia and Africa as well as Australia
Dr. Neilsen brings a wealth of experience which synthesizes broad public health and clinical knowledge in sexual health, and strong credibility with community networks of sex workers and men who have sex with men. He has worked closely with bilateral and multilateral donor agencies (including USAID, DFID, AusAID, WHO and UNFPA) with a driving enthusiasm to ensure a rights-based perspective to programming and policies particularly related to sexual health and most-at-risk populations. His expertise includes improving the quality of care and integration of HIV care, support and treatment in STI service delivery, targeted interventions with sex workers, transgenders and men who have sex with men. He is the author of many peer-reviewed papers on sexual health issues and has written several book chapters on the area. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Sexually Transmitted Infections.
Until April 2011, he served as the Technical Advisor, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Public Health Programs, Asia and Pacific Regional Office of Family Health International. Dr. Neilsen has overseen FHI’s technical assistance in these areas in Asia and the Pacific for almost ten years. FHI has 11 country offices in the region – from Papua New Guinea to Pakistan.
Dr. Neilsen has a Masters of Medicine degree in Sexual Health from the University of Sydney. He is a Fellow of both the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine and the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine, Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
