I received my Bachelor in International Relations and Psychology at the University of Sydney and my Master’s in Peace and Conflict in Malmo, Sweden. I therefore have an in-depth knowledge concerning international development. The thesis that I wrote for my Master’s degree dealt with failed democratisation in post-conflict states and the implications that it can have upon the well-being of these populations. My research into these issues has made me appreciate organisations such as the Commonwealth Foundation and inspired me to get involved in the work that they do. As for my career ambition, I feel that I am more suited to communications work, which is why I have been pursuing this path for the last couple of years. I believe that I have an edge in this industry owing to my experience in communications, particularly IT, and my extensive knowledge in international development.
As for practical experience, I have worked in a number of organisations in both communication and research positions. As a consultant working in a small team in the communications section at UNICEF in Geneva, I have developed excellent skills in written and oral communication through drafting, editing, liaising with country offices and website updating using Open Text content management system. I have also gained experience in knowledge management protocol. Previously, I spent one year at the Lowy Institute in Sydney as a Research Intern, Communications Intern and then Multimedia Producer. During my time at the Institute, I developed strong proficiencies in research, writing, proofreading and multimedia production (please see my LinkedIn profile for some of my video projects). Working with little guidance further taught me initiative and I assisted in weekly events from time to time. Finally, I have experience in administrative responsibilities such as organising meetings and media research from working at public relations firm Westfield Wright Ltd. I also managed the firm’s website using Word Press content management system.
Some of my other skills include strong interpersonal skills, an ability to work under pressure and a high proficiency in IT-related tasks. Some of my personal attributes include being sharp, reliable and resourceful, and my other languages include French and Italian.
