An Officer in the West Bengal Civil Service, I have worked in different capacities from Block Development Officer in the field to the State Government Secretariat where presently I am working as a Joint Secretary and Commissioner. I have worked in both rural and urban sectors. My stint of five years at the State Institute of Panchayats & Rural Development gave me an opportunity to be actively associated with training of elected panchayat functionaries and the officials associated with implementation of various rural development programmes. I had a brief tenure as Joint Director in the Municipal Training Institute (ILGUS). I worked in the Development & Planning Department, Department of Correctional Administration, the State unit of the Election Commission of India and the Panchayats & Rural Development Department. I had an opportunity to work with UNICEF, for three years as Consultant in the Health & Programme Communication Sections and one year and a half as Programme Communicatiuon Officer in a State ofice.
My interests are in development communication, participatory training, participatory development, participatory communication, mother and childcare, gender issues, correctional reforms, electoral reforms, panchayats and decentralization.
