I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Science (Publishing and Media Studies Major). I also hold certificates in certain areas in Mass Communication (Photojournalism, Radio Production, Scripting for Feature Films, Video Production for Feature and Factual Films). I am proficient in Computers and hold a Diploma in Computer Applications.
I have interest in Communication for Development and working with an NGO has helped me see Communication in a whole new light. I have worked in a media house (Kenya Television Network) where I got experience of Communication as a 'reporting tool'. In the developing world, I have seen Communication not just a tool to 'inform and persude audiences but as a discipline that can contribute to development in a massive way.
I have special interest in documentary production and I am a skilled writer who can script amicably. I also have a great voice for narration. This is my hobby and also what my career entails (though not entirely).
Besides scripting and narration, I also have a passion for photography and video recording. I recently (13th October 2011) shot live footage of a fire new my workplace and I took it to KTN and the story was aired. Though it was a 'by the way', it made me realize I am no longer an amarteur videographer as the quality of the footage was commendable. I recently started blogging on my experiences in the field as a way to hone my writing skills. Kindly visit www.dianawarira.wordpress.com for a sample of my writing.
My desire to join the Communication Initiative Network is a stepping stone to becoming a Communication Expert in the field of Development Communication. I am in the process of enrolling for a Masters in Development Communication at Daystar University in 2012. I believe being a part of this network will help me grow in my career in leaps and bounds and help me contribute to the growth of my country Kenya and Africa in a major way.
