Name: Candida Connor
I have over thirteen years experience working in communications, advocacy and partnership development primarily for the United Nations, NGO and Government sector. As Communications Officer/ Spokesperson for the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Australian Development Cooperation (AusAID), CARE International and DKT International, I successfully developed and implemented comprehensive and innovative sector-wide communication and advocacy strategies with excellent results. I effectively raised the organization profile in-country and abroad, increased donor funding, and strengthened Government and international partnerships for long-term cooperation. I also coordinated high-profile visits for several high-level dignitaries, most notably the United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, the former Australian Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, the WHO Regional Director for the Western Pacific Region , Dr. Shigeru Omi, and the United Nations Influenza Coordinator, Dr. David Nabarro. As a specialist in the field of communications working in the NGO and private sector, I took the lead in proposal development, secured funding, negotiated donor and corporate support for programme activities and implemented several successful high-profile mass media awareness-raising campaigns. My work has led me to negotiate and collaborate directly with a wide range of partners within the Government and political arena, the NGO sector, donor community, UN family and the UN Secretary General’s office.
