Currently working at the Nuclear Energy Agency of the OECD, in the department of “Public Affairs, External Relations, Central Secretariat”, I have experience in work on the energy sector, especially in the communications, publications, and information and coordination fields.
My international experience, which I developed through a series of personal and professional endeavours, had since the beginning made the work in the international communications field especially appealing to me. My working experience at the OECD has allowed me to leverage my existing skills and develop them further.
Growing up in a family of diplomats, and having two nationalities –the Argentinean and the Italian-, I have been exposed to different cultures as long as I can recall and had therefore the chance to grow and study between two continents and cultures: Latin America and Europe. I have had the opportunity to live in Argentina, Switzerland, Belgium, France and Brazil, and to spend time in Germany and England. As a result, I have also developed my language skills being completely fluent in English and French, with full command of Spanish –my mother tongue- and Portuguese I also speak intermediate-level German and can understand Italian as well.
I am deeply interested by global events with a special focus on development and energy related issues. This is why I chose for my studies an undergraduate program of political sciences and international relations focused on Latin America, Spain and Portugal. This gave me a close look at developing-country issues, both their dynamism and the unique challenges they face, with major focus on social sciences, history, economy and sociology. As part of my curricula at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), I completed a full course at the Pontificia Universidade Catolica in Rio de Janeiro: this experience gave me the occasion to deepen my understanding of the socio political realities in Brazil and the Latin American region in a wider sense. I had also the chance to travel a lot in the region and have many contacts there.
Communications was another natural choice for my master degree as I wanted to broaden my academic experience more in the professional field and be able through this way to deal properly and in the most efficient way with international problematic. As an undergraduate, I participated and obtained several awards in a number of writing contests. I have also complemented my classroom learning with three internship, in the private and public sectors: one in an insurance company, the second as assistant to the director of communications of a humanitarian organization, the third as a network communication assistant in a worldwide communication agency but always in the international or global department –more details on these can be provided upon request-.
In all those experiences, I have been working extensively with internet-based, press and international media communication, being responsible primarily for publishing and proofreading web content, as well as writing press releases, policy briefs, dealing with clients and partners, and organizing contacts, be it with medias, different institutions and organizations or particulars in the private sector.
In addition to technical capacity, this required strong organizational skills, as I was also asked to help preparing different kind of conferences and seminaries.
Working at the NEA recently gave me the chance to participate and co organize press conferences and special events –most recently with the polish Economy Minister Hanna Trojanowska for the accession of Poland as a new NEA member for example-, assisting the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano during his recent visit to OECD and NEA, meetings with energy advisers from NEA Member States, Steering Committees Meetings, bilateral meetings with delegations from the IAEA. At the moment, I am currently helping to prepare the next meeting of the G8-G20 meeting on nuclear safety.
I feel therefore that my profile, by virtue of my personal background, education, and past and current work experience, would permit me to make an effective contribution to the type of works offered by The communication initiative network.
