I am a senior lecturer in the School of Arts and Digital Industries at the University of East London, London. My journalism practice began in Nigeria in the mid-1980s. My research, teaching and academic writing have focused on media, religion, international development and Europe’s new African diasporas. I’m the author of no fewer than 26 publications that include two monographs, book chapters, refereed articles and special reports. My research and expert opinions have been publicised in newspapers, radio and television in Ireland and on Al Jazeera, the international TV network. I have participated in multinational European projects and produced two country reports. I have also been part of a trans-continental research consortium made up of researchers from seven countries that produced country reports on ‘Irregular Migration’. I have supervised two PhD students to completion, one of them as Director of Studies. I have served as external examiner for four PhD oral exams and for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in universities in Ireland and UK.
