Media experieince - I worked for the National Radio Station of the country for 19 years as a program producer, team leader and head of department. In my years as a radio journalist I focused on health, development, gender and HIV/AIDS issues.
Advocacy - I worked for an International NGO as an advocacy officer for five years. I contributed substantially in advocating for the role of “Iddirs” (traditional burial societies) in the development of the country. I particularly worked with Iddirs to help them revise their self-image as well as their bylaws so that they could work as institutions contributing to development.
SBC Senior Technical Officer ( STO) - currently I am working for FHI-ETH as STO for SBC. My specific responsibilities include training of SBC trainers; provision of leadership and technical assistance to government, civil society and private sector partners for the design, implementation and monitroing and evaluation of their HIV SBC programs targeting high risk groups.
Currently in addition to the above roles and responsibilities I am working as a SBC technical specialist for "Yekokeb Brehan" project which works on Highly Vulnerable Children ( HVC) in Ethiopia. In this project I am responsible to provide technical assistance to ensure that a strategy is in place to work towards a change in knowledge, attitude and practice of families, communities and concerned bodies regarding issues of HVC. I am also providing technical assistance in the development and implementation of the communciation campaigns towards bringing the anticipated results.
Interests - I am highly interested to develop my capacity around SBC and build the capciaty of partner organziations in the design and implemntation of their SBC programs.
I am also interested to look in to how to benefit from media programs and to work on a strategy on how media programs and community based interventions can mutually strenghten for best results.
