I seek a dynamic platform to pursue my agenda of utilizing my skills to work with a conscientious organization for mutually beneficial results. The possibility of being associated with a reputable and fascinating project while pursuing a line of work that is a merger of my skills and interests is a unique opportunity.
My application is driven by my desire to use my skills as a communicator to assist in the achievement of development goals. I enjoy the human element of this job and keep that as an integral part of my work ethic. I have earlier focused on socially relevant causes as a part of my work such as issues in reportage and time commitment in NGO’s but I want to explore this arena in more depth now.
As the development section intern with strategic communications at the United Nations, I have assisted in designing communication campaigns that have had a worldwide impact. From High- level meetings on Disability and Development, Global Education First Initiative, to the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, these are just a few of the campaigns that I was a part of.
My experience as a journalist in India ranging from small student run ventures to Hindustan Times, a national English daily took me to various regional bureaus and has instilled in me the ability to work across platforms for a wide range of subjects. I have worked on various features to represent and raise awareness about the troubles of the unrepresented. I think with my academic degrees and on-ground experience, I am equipped with the theoretical resources to complement my practical knowledge and will be an ideal match for the team.
My time with the Research Bureau has taught me how to craft the simplest of details in a well-organized message for the public. This outlook, coupled with my experience and training will help me in communicating effectively with a diverse range of audiences. As a reporter and at the UN, I have on numerous occasions interacted with international organizations, media and NGO’s. This gives my application a distinct edge, as I feel I have an in-depth knowledge of the workings of such departments and an insight into the appropriation of their data by the media. I know I can use this insight into drafting successful communication and media outreach strategies for the organization. The administrative aspect of this position bodes well with my personality of a thorough planner and organiser. My commitment at this important juncture of my career along with my skills makes me an ideal candidate.
