I believe that I have the right qualifications for the position advertised; this I can attribute to my diverse experience in the communication industry where I have been involved in managing and developing various campaigns. I have developed and successfully implemented both Telkom Kenya and I Choose Life-Africa PR communication strategies. This experience has given me an edge in running successful communication campaigns and strategies both for external and internal use. I have great skills in tactical approaches to campaigns and events management.
One of my responsibilities in my current role as an External Communications and Public Affairs Manager at Orange Telecom is to work closely with other managers within the Company to develop potential story ideas and pitch them to local and international media houses; I work closely with our Media Agency which I manage on daily basis. This has greatly enhanced the image of the company and its employees with customers and the general public. I pride myself in the network that I have been able to create in the media industry throughout my career. This good rapport I have created with several international and local media personnel has been useful while pitching for positive driven articles in the media. As a former member of the Foreign Press Corps-Kenya Chapter, I have demonstrated ability to push for both print and electronic stories.
I have vast experience working in the development and humanitarian sector. At I Choose Life-Africa, a regional NGO, I was part of a program that enabled individuals through mentorship and training to take up successful business model to change their economic status. For almost two and a half years, I managed a team responsible for providing entrepreneur and economic empowerment training to equip individuals with skills to set up successful businesses with financial support from banks and microfinance organizations we had partnered with. I have also managed to create relationship with senior government officials who have influence in policy making within our government; this I believe are all key contacts that would benefit the program as we engage the public, media and government in various issues.
At both Orange-Telkom, I oversee and manage Telkom Kenya’s website and our Social Media platforms. Furthermore, part of my responsibility is to generate or provide avenues for journalists to gather information for publications in local and international media. Additionally, I advise the various Sales Teams on how to utilize the Social Media platforms to generate sales. I am also core team member of the Crisis Management team and was solely responsible for the development of the Crisis Communication plan for the company.
In conclusion, it is not enough to merely prevent war, hunger, epidemic or disasters; the international community must make a greater effort to respond to warning signs as a way to preempt the eruption of this issues. A lot is being done on reactive approaches to conflict rebuilding and disaster management and resolving but prevention must hold the same level of importance. There must be political commitments, institutional capacities, and policy-relevant knowledge for the World to curb the surge. My desire is a World with a just and equitable economic order, that is free from poverty, exclusion and human suffering and that equitably serve everyone, including the most vulnerable and marginalized.
In my work i utilize my communication, management and research skills that have been honed throughout my career.
