Creative Arts for Youth HIV/AIDS Prevention - Music and Comics in Chamanculo

Using music and comics, Community Media for Development (CMFD) Productions, together with music group Sigauque Project, are implementing the project Creative Arts for Youth HIV/AIDS Prevention - Music and Comics in Chamanculo in Maputo, Mozambique. Launched in January 2012, the objective of the project is to promote HIV/AIDS awareness among the youth, while changing attitudes towards protection and preventative methods.

Phalombe Malaria Communities Project

The Phalombe Malaria Communities Project uses radio programmes, posters, flyers, and malaria ambassadors to reach mothers and caregivers with information about malaria prevention and treatment. The project also works through Village Health Committees (VHCs), who conduct community awareness on malaria through home visits and net demonstrations. Initiated in 2009, this is a project by Concern Universal in collaboration with the Phalombe District Council, with funding from the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI).

Inter-religious Program against Malaria (PIRCOM)

The Inter-religious Program against Malaria, or Programa Inter-Religiosa Contra a Malaria (PIRCOM) in Portuguese, is a multi-faith organisation which has been working on malaria prevention and treatment in four of Mozambique's provinces since 2006. PIRCOM is the implementing organisation of the Together Against Malaria (TAM) programme, which brings together various non-governmental organsiations and faith communities, supported by the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI).

Documentary Photography Audience Engagement Grant

The Open Society Institute (OSI) Documentary Photography Project is offering a grant to support alternative models for presenting and disseminating documentary photography to the public.

The Audience Engagement Grant (formerly the Distribution Grant) supports innovative projects that use existing bodies of work to actively engage audiences on human rights and social justice issues. Grassroots Female Communicators Association (GRAFCA)

Launched in July 2011, the Grassroots Female Communicators Association (GRAFCA) works to build the capacity of village leaders in the Songea Rural District, Tanzania, to challenge discrimination and lead an anti-stigma campaign surrounding HIV/AIDS infection and treatment through educational and empowering workshops held in and around rural areas. Knowledge and Behaviour as Determinants of Anti-malarial Drug Use in a Peri-urban Population from Malaria Holoendemic Region of Western Kenya

According to this article in the Malaria Journal, strategies for improving anti-malarial drug compliance require accurate information about current practices at the consumer level. The article shares findings of a study carried out in Manyatta-B sub-location in Kisumu, Kenya, to evaluate knowledge and behaviour associated with anti-malarial use. The research found that while there was a high level of malaria knowledge, the majority acquired ineffective anti-malarial drugs for treatment and reported sub-optimal treatment regimens with the currently recommended drugs.

PSI/Kenya Malaria Communication Campaigns

Launched in 2001, the Population Services International (PSI) malaria programme in Kenya works to support the government to achieve universal coverage of Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLINs). Along with mass net distribution every 3 to 4 years, PSI has used communication campaigns to drive net ownership and use. These campaigns have included Ghost Children, Sweet Dreams, Malaria Ishindwe (defeat Malaria) and the most recent one launched in 2009, Mbu Nje, Sisi Ndani (Mosquitoes Out, All of Us In).

Saliwansai Radio Drama

Malaria Through the Eyes of a Child

Published by Bestnet A/S, this book documents Bestnet A/S's education activities in celebration of World Malaria Day 2011, and shares poems, stories, and drawings by children themselves about malaria. Bestnet and partners reached out to educate hundreds of school children on five continents about malaria and the protection provided by sleeping under Bestnet's Netprotect® Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets (LLINs). The children were asked to inform Bestnet about the devastating effects of this life-threatening disease through their own poems, stories and drawings.

Brisons le Silence (Break the Silence)

In March 2012, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), launched Brisons le Silence (Break the Silence), a nationwide social marketing campaign to combat violence against women and girls, including domestic violence, in Cote d’Ivoire . The campaign uses social norms marketing to encourage the reporting of conjugal and partner violence, as well as the support of survivors. The campaign is designed to promote equitable gender norms and positive attitudes toward women and coordinated by the Gender Based Violence Coordinator, Monika Bakayoko-Topolska.
