Caring for Children in Uganda: A Handbook for Parents of Young Children

Summary

This handbook is meant to help parents and other caregivers look after their children aged 0-6 years. It presents in a clear and easy-to-read manner the steps that must be taken for the following:
  • Ensure that healthy mothers have healthy babies during pregnancy, at delivery, and after delivery;
  • Provide appropriate breastfeeding and complementary feeding;
  • Prevent illness by cleaning food, water and latrines and through mosquito nets and immunisation;
  • Respond to sickness by recognising danger signs, going to the clinic, de-worming, and treating diarrhoea, vomiting, and fever; and
  • Promote learning with things, people, time, and positive discipline.
